Another gritty Aussie crime drama. This time fictional (as far as I'm aware), but it feels real. Well acted. Pretty intense scenario involving a really messed up couple and a captive. So grim. Horrific. It's a simple idea but its padded out with interesting character relationships and enough shocking acts to mark out changes in intensity. It's well made. It has its own style. Set in the 80s, but it didn't play the silly pop culture game of spot the eighties, as many movies and shows set in the eighties do, to capitalise on nostalgia. Like all these dark Aussie dramas, I'm not sure how many times I could re-watch it.
Based on serial killers David and Catherine Birnie. https://www.thehollywoodoutsider.com/hounds-of-love-inspired-by-a-true-story/ You can always count on Aussie thriller / drama / horror films to have an understated gritty realism that's menacing and somewhat disturbing.
Australians know horror! Terrifying, heartbreaking and haunting. This film will really play with your emotions. It’s a hidden gem that will leave you sat in your chair drained afterwards. If you’re into small crime/horrors this is definitely worth your time 👍
Heartbreaking and horrifying. The cast really did a great job and play with my emotions. Not the type of movie that I would rewatch, because the tense felt so real and knowing it's based on a true story. Worth a watch at least once!
A heartwarming tale in the vein of Lady And The Tramp, this is a movie for all you romantics out there... except, of course, its not, despite the title. Based on a true story, this is a well-made but grim film.
