I can't fault the movie, top shelf acting and production quality. I also can't say I enjoyed it... once the catastrophe strikes, instant waterworks. For the rest of the gut-wrenching movie, if I wasn't crying, I was about to. Knowing that it actually occurred makes it difficult to watch, regardless of the quality. Had I known the effect it would have, I would've waited for it to be available for streaming. I wasn't alone though as the theatre was definitely a crying-zone.
Exceptionally well made movie, that stands as a huge testament to the power of the human spirit. I knew little of the true story beforehand, but having seen the film, I am both moved and saddened by the events that took place.
I do NOT understand the hate for this movie. Technically very well done and except for a few moments of not all that good acting, the movie works very well. It also succeeds in what I think it was made for...It relays the horror and heroism of that day, and the days that followed, brilliantly. If you have a chance, pick this one up and watch it...
Not knowing all the facts about the bombing and what took place afterwards for me it was the perfect built of tense and unknown variables that even the long duration it was perfectly paced and well crafted. I thorough enjoyed it.
Hollywood’s desire to make films dramatising terrorist events will never be quenched and here the spotlight turns to the Boston Marathon bombings of 2013. Although one might question the value of such a film in the first place, Patriot’s Day is nonetheless a gripping retelling of the events. The screenplay really takes off after the explosions - Berg constructs an excellent cat and mouse chase as the police dragnet closes in on the suspects. The decision to centre the plot on Mark Wahlberg’s fictional police officer is a little iffy. On the one hand it makes sense to tie it all together, on the other hand why couldn’t they just tell it as it actually happened? Perhaps the need for a big name actor on the poster was too great. There’s no lack of big names though. John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and J.K. Simmons all turn in stellar performances, each representing a different branch of law enforcement. Patriot’s Day isn’t particularly original or insightful but it’s far from the sickly and overly patriotic shlockfest one might expect. benoliver999.com/film/2017/08/17/patriotsday/
