This film is guilty of gross misconduct in breaching the laws of logic and wasting the talent of good actors.
In the final third of a movie, a maniac is racing around on a motorcycle. For no reason in the world, the main character decides to chase him. In the next scene, the maniac has the guy tied up along with the guy's wife. There was no reason to chase the motorcycle, so anything that comes from this can not possibly relate to the ongoing plot of the movie.. Right? .....Wrong! In the next scene it turns out this is the main plot. It has nothing to do with the movie that came before, but the writers are trying to be suspenseful and have a twist ending! Unfortunately, they are doing it wrong. They just make up a whole bunch of extra facts that have never been discussed before and show a whole bunch of flashbacks that go against everything you have seen, and then fade to black. That is not how suspense works!
I think this film was judged a little too harshly. It definitely doesn’t deserve ratings this low and could easily be rated a bit higher. The story pulled me in, I stayed engaged all the way through, and the performances were genuinely strong. It also wasn’t that predictable, which was a nice surprise. It was worth watching at least once, even if some parts felt a little forced or illogically connected.
Misconduct is a missed opportunity, its potential sapped by a tangled plot and underdeveloped characters. Yet, for fans of Pacino and Hopkins, their performances provide fleeting moments of intrigue. Recommended cautiously to devotees of legal thrillers willing to overlook flaws for a glimpse of two acting titans in modest form.
