Epic Historical Drama, definitely a classic film.

Watching this after having seen Napoleon (2023) and it's interesting how many scenes were replicated. Rod's performance is too theatrical for my taste. The best parts are the battle scenes and how they were done in a real way that today would be made with CGI.

I've watched this so many times since I was a kid. Absolutely love it.

Always skipped on the opportunity to see this one as I expected it would be pallid in comparison to Gance's 1927 film. And well, yes, it does. But it's still a good film and a pleasant surprise. Anyone who has seen enough of Bondarchuk's other films surely know he was an epic filmmaker on an unprecednted scale. And while this one wasn't as huge scale as his adaptation of War and Peace (1965), it is still has a very impressive battle. Thousands of extras. And Bonderchuk marsalls them well. Impreessive and enthralling. I think the only problem I have here is Steiger's performance. While it is good, I don't think it quite captured the megolomania and charisma of the man. He seemed a little too nice. But definitely worth a watch and easy to find on youtube.
