The original "Invisible Man" was a tale about Jack Griffin, a scientist who discovers a way to make himself invisible and then descends into madness. There is nothing redeeming about Griffin and Director James Whale makes no real attempt to soften the character. That is the key difference that makes this sequel far less interesting. Here, the main character Geoffrey Radcliffe (played by Vincent Price), is wrongly accused of murder and tries to prove his innocence while teetering on the edge of insanity. This premise is not nearly as intriguing as Whale's original portrayal. It's still a lot of fun to see curtains parting, tree branches moving and footprints being made without a source. The way Radcliffe pushes his way through crowds that seem to magically part is neat. There are a couple of great shots where the invisible man is momentarily visible when he comes in contact with smoke and rain. The biggest drawbacks are some pretty bland characters and an annoyingly over the top Willie Spears (played by Alan Napier). I was impressed by a touching moment when Radcliffe is cold, invisible and alone. He's in the middle of a field and asks a scarecrow if he might borrow its clothes for warmth. This sequel is good but comes nowhere close to the wonderful original "Invisible Man" film.

A not really necessary second part that is though solid and ok to watch.

_The Invisible Man Returns_ as Vincent Price in this sequel to the Universal classic. On death row for a murder that he didn’t commit, Sir Geoffrey Radcliffe turns to his friend Dr. Frank Griffin for his brother’s invisibility formula to help him escape and find the real killer. Co-starring Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Cecil Kellaway, and Nan Grey, the cast is pretty good. However, the murder mystery story isn’t really in tune with the last film. Also, some of the strings are showing (literally) in the invisibility effects, though they do pull off some ambitious new tricks. It’s entertaining and delivers a few thrills, but _The Invisible Man Returns_ ends up being a rather mediocre film.
