Uninspired family movie, I found this to be quite disappointing. Still, at least Max is a better actor than most of those on screen.

"Max" (2015) is a family drama centered around a U.S. Marine dog named Max, who returns from service after his handler is killed in Afghanistan. The dog is emotionally affected, but he starts to heal when he’s taken in by the soldier’s family—especially his younger brother, Justin. The film carries a strong, heartfelt message about loyalty, bravery, and the bond between humans and animals. The story is told in a simple and easy-to-follow way, though at times it leans on familiar family movie clichés. The acting was solid, especially from the dog himself—who honestly stole the spotlight. Josh Wiggins, playing the younger brother, gave a convincing performance. The rest of the characters served their purpose but weren’t deeply developed. Visually, the direction is clean, and there are some emotional scenes, but overall, it’s not particularly standout in terms of cinematography or style. My rating: 6/10 A warm, emotional film suitable for families or animal lovers. It’s not the best of its kind, but it delivers its message respectfully and makes it easy to grow attached to Max.

As a Veteran, I see this movie as a trite play on the hearts of American heart toward Veterans. When it comes down to it, it's a story about a dog and a family that all play typical family stereotypes. This 'Dog of War' also displays skills unrealistic of what a dog can actually do. Annoying movie.

Just an ordinary movie of lower quality. The story is schematic for most of the time and looks a little bit like for youth watchers, but the dog makes the difference. Because of Max people at any age can see this film and enjoy it. But this still is a family movie with only aspects of war or a drama related to war. I reflect that "Megan Leavey" with Kate Mara is more about that subject.
