Well, at least Robin Williams gives a good performance. Everything else is, at best, mediocre. I get the attempt, the execution just didn't work in my opinion. Williams is the one positive from this. Sadly the great man did feature in some stinkers towards the end of his career, I'll unfortunately be filling this one alongside fellow disappointments 'Old Dogs' (that's the far worse of the three, mind) and 'The Angriest Man in Brooklyn'. His stature rightly remains unaffected, still one of the alltimers without a doubt. Elsewhere, Kathy Baker is decent and Roberto Aguire is OK, while it's nice to see Bob Odenkirk; albeit in a bit part. My issues with this aren't anything to do with the acting talent, more so the meandering story and uninteresting delivery of a potentially interesting idea. I was supposed to care for Nolan here, yet if anything he's almost closer to (if not actually) unlikeable.
"People leave you know, but for some people it doesn't seem fair." The above words are spoken by Williams' character, in this, his final dramatic performance. Boy, do those words ring true. Robin Williams left us too soon and I miss him. It's not fair. At least we still have a fine body of work left behind to remind us of not only his talent as a comedian but also an actor, and in this film he turns in a wonderful performance as a man living with a secret that threatens his world. Kathy Baker turns in a moving performance as his wife, sad and lonely as she sees her husband disappear emotionally. This is a good film.
A lot of uncomfortable moments but in a good way. An emotional story. Robin Williams had such a range.
