If you treat this as a stand-alone, then it's OK. But, since it's a prequel, it needs to be judged by the standard of the thing it's intended to be part of. On that criterion, it fails. The story is predictable; our hero is redeemed by the fire of battle. It doesn't add much, if anything, to the re-booted BSG franchise. Maybe, if you're a BSG completist, you might watch it once. As I have. But that's all.

Didn't age well. In terms of story this is ok-ish. What is letting it down is the feel and, especially, the look of a fanfic.

Honestly was not as bad as I was expecting. It wasn't incredible so you might struggle going from BSG into this, however I'm currently doing a BSG re-watch in chronological order, so Caprica into this and then next will be miniseries and season 1. In that context it's fine, interesting to see some context of the first Cylon war. In fact I think you could have made this same movie without without young Adama and just had same movie in the same universe and it would have been fine, but it was nice to see a few references to Caprica and such origins. One thing that did throw me was how many actors were in this, who were also in Caprica but as completely different characters. Jill Teed I think even would have worked as the same character if you just aged her with makeup, but the others John Pyper-Ferguson, Zak Santiago, Ben Cotton and Brian Markinson were completely separate. Performances were fine, no issues there and it's probably just something like the same casting agency/location type situation but it was just a bit odd seeing so many of the same faces with different characters in the same universe. Granted, if you had not just finished watching Caprica there is a good chance you would not even notice.
