The first movie's wonder is replaced by a darkest atmosphere as the children are more mature and bearable. We have many fights showing us a more violent side of Narnia which is no longer the peaceful world the children were used to when it was under their reign. The new characters are a good addition to this battle-oriented story and Ben Barnes is okay as Caspian.
It really felt like a mediocre medieval war movie adding Narnian characters for effect.
Narnia: prince Caspian doesn’t capture the magic of the lion, the witch and wardrobe feels like a huge downgrade in quality and the story is not set out to the standard in which the first movie was which is surprising to me considering it’s the same director. I love the whole idea of the Narnia franchise and I think it’s for sure got the potential to be one of the biggest out there and the first movie was a brilliant start but personally this movie doesn’t do much to continue building up the world of Narnia I think having a time jump losing loveable characters like the beavers and mr. Tumnus was a huge mistake and a weird decision to make for a second instalment. The introduction to prince Caspian wasn’t the best if I’m being honest I like the actor and it’s awesome they tried to expand the characters but I’m not a huge fan of the way they made him the main focus and basically having the Penvensie family be in his shadow. There was a lot of moments throughout that I felt bored which shouldn’t be the case with a Narnia movie the villain was very bland and generic to me and a massive step down from the white witch her cameo was cool but made me think killing her off in the 1st movie was a major mistake she’s a great villain and maybe should’ve been a vocal point for more than just one movie of the franchise. What they did with Aslan was just wasteful he was hardly apart of it they already did that in the first one building anticipation to seeing him so they really didn’t need to do that again, he’s one of the best parts of Narnia so yeah why did they do that. I’ve just put negatives so far but I’m not saying this was a terrible sequel it was a average movie that in my opinion should of been a lot better than what we got here, it as got some positives the Battles were quite fun to watch and well crafted, I did like the new character introduced the little sword master and leader of the talking mice “Reepicheep” definitely one my favourite things of this second Narnia movie found him adorable and funny but also he’s one who you can’t underestimate. Peter Dinklage’s “VERY” accent wtf was that hahaha he sounded more “ENGLISH” than the actual proper actors from the Uk, literally though why did he have to have that accent just because the kids are from London? Found it hilarious though and at least it made me laugh it was cool to see Warwick Davis apart of this. My closing thoughts are I wish that this sequel would of stayed closer to the first movies’ vibe because it felt like so much of the magical stuff that I adored about it was lost a little , it just didn’t feel as special to me, I guess it could of been worse but like I said at the start I do think Narnia should be up there with the top franchises so this sequel just doesn’t quite do it for me. 6/10
The first Narnia movie means a lot to me and I’m suprised by how I’ve never actually checked out its sequels. I haven’t heard much about them to be honest so I guess that’s why I never watched them in the first place. They never really stuck out to me that much, but I figured after my first rewatch of the first movie in years I may as well check them out. Prince Caspian sure had its moments with some pretty cool battles and characters, but for me it didn’t quite have that magic feeling of the first movie and at times I just found it quite boring. It definitely didn’t need to be 2 and a half hours that’s for sure. I wouldn’t say it was a bad movie, just a very average one and it could’ve been so much better if done right. The story was okay I suppose, although I wasn’t a huge fan of the massive time jump. Look I get how time goes faster in this world, but to me it felt quite silly having it be set like hundreds of years after the first film mainly because this is only the second instalment and every single character from the first Narnia movie that you got super attached to has died at this point. I just didn’t think it was a great decision if I’m honest. For a film that’s literally called Prince Caspian, I wasn’t exactly interested in his overall character which wasn’t a good sign. The same goes for the villains who I felt were very generic and had absolutely nothing to them. They had nothing on Jadis the White Witch and am I the only person who was rooting for her to come back in that scene she was in.. The main gang were still decent and obviously I loved Aslan, although the way they portrayed him in this was pretty silly, I mean he didn’t even have a big role in this because he kept on disappearing for some reason which was so annoying. He should’ve been a way bigger part of this movie, or at least show up earlier to the battle. I still adore him though but the way they handled his character here wasn’t great. Now let’s talk about the positive as believe it or not, even though I’m trashing on this film there were still parts I did enjoy. I thought the battles were well done and some of the new characters that they introduced were great, like Reepicheep and his cute little minions (so basically all the creatures). I did also like Trumpkin as well and his accent was hilarious, I mean there’s English then there’s freaking Peter Dinklage ENGLISH. I loved it. I’m not saying this was a bad movie as it does have a couple of things I liked. It’s still not on the level of the first film though as it’s missing that whole magic vibe. I didn’t mind it though and I’d say its at least average, I just wish it was a lot better because this could’ve been one hell of a franchise after The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. I’m gonna give Prince Caspian a 6 out of 10. 6/10
