Felt a bit like a long Tales from the Crypt episode. Alright though.
So sad that Stuart Gordon passed away this year right? He knows how to make killer movies! Dolls is about well, I think you can guess what. Anyway, this one starts out like "The Old Dark House" later morphs into a film were adults who aren't child by heart/soul are attacked by dolls and even turned into them. It's cheesy, but it works. The eyes of the dolls are terrifying though! And the scene in the background during the end credits? Freaking awesome! Dolls is a neat 77 minutes long with Stuart Gordon's wife (Carolyn Purdy Gordon) playing the most witty step-mother ever! And that scene with the giant teddy bear? GOLD! If you have the time, be sure to check this one out!
This is such a classic 80s horror movie and a most played one for here at our home. My wife absolutely loves this movie, it is her comfort movie, she can watch it anytime and many time watches it as she goes to bed. This movie has grown on me and still enjoy it every time she puts it on.
Slow but well acted. Stephen Lee does a great job as Ralph Morris, but overall, the film fell flat. Not too scary and not much actually happens. Just kind of dull.
Another great find from TCM. _Dolls_ is a compact and straightforward 80s horror about a group of people staying a night in the house full of killer dolls. It caught me of guard because it's R-rated but it's actually a very goofy and wholesome family film with some murder and gore. The story is simple but effective. It captures the genuinity of the leads little friendship and with the dolls. The supporting cast also manages to stand out and let their personality shines. The stuff they do with the dolls is very impressive. The design and practical work are amazing. It has a right amount of campy humor and violence. I appreciate how they keep the killer dolls hidden and really take their time before revealing them in all their glory.
