Brave and vulnerable, especially for a time less documented before the explosion of smartphone ownership, _i hate myself :)_ is dripping in art student self-seriousness with a whiff of adolescent acting out, even down to showing the disapproving parents many times over the course of the runtime. It's intimate and raw, but I can't shake the feeling that Joanna knows this is wrong but is smiling behind the camera because it makes for better content and a more jarring viewing experience. A true voyeur, but not in a positive way.
