It's not really a good movie but I do have some nostalgia for this. I'm glad I rewatched it.
[Insert basketball pun here, something like I call foul / doesn't get off the ground / missed his shot / a 3-point out of 10 movie / I hope Jordan's career can rebound / flat footed acting / nothing but net profits / the script is simply foul lines... ] If you thought you couldn't care less about basketball, watch _Space Jam_ and you'll see you could. In what may be a contender for worst live action / animation hybrid, this Michael Jordan vehicle doesn't go anywhere and does nothing but reinforce the cliché that athletes can't act.
It's fine. Endearingly mediocre. Michael Jordan cannot act, Lola Bunny is way too horny, and most of the Tunes cast just sound weird. It's 90s excess before 2020s excess would make it look quaint. Bill Murray is a major part of this film as himself for zero reason. But we also have Wayne Knight, Danny DeVito, and at least it sticks to just Looney Tunes and just basketball.
The Looney Tunes film _Space Jam_ is little more than a Michael Jordan vanity project. And the sad truth is that Jordan just isn’t good enough as an actor to carry this film; especial when he’s sharing the screen with the likes of Bill Murray (who steals every scene he’s in). Even the Looney Tunes aren’t bringing their A-game here. Still, it’s fun to see Bugs, Daffy, Taz, and the rest, and some of the comedy works pretty well. But the film really limits itself by writing the whole story around Michael Jordan and his return to the NBA after a short lived baseball career. _Space Jam_ is an entertaining piece of ‘90s pop culture, but it’s doesn't hold up.
Space Jam is a movie for the whole family and will be fun for people of all ages. The 3D visual effects aged badly, but the 2D cartoon is very nice.
