Well, It's boring... Wasted two hours of my short holiday
I'll see you soon, my love. No matter where you are in this world.
Tim is the ultimate villain. He watched his friend's daughter spend a summer falling in love with John (who is age appropriate, might I add). John ships out to serve his country in the wake of 9/11. What does Tim do? He marries his buddy's daughter so her existence can be reduced to being his caretaker and raising his kid. He almost imprisoned this girl. The best thing he did was die. At least he couldn't ruin her entire life... just a good decade of it. Was I supposed to pity Tim, when John went to see him in the hospital? Tim was like, "I bet you want to punch me right now." Well, bro, no need to. Life punched you instead.
That was good! The conflict was interesting, the nod at the autism spectrum was unexpected and it worked quiet well, John's dad was heartwarming. John and Savannah were cute. The "see you soon, then" thing was awful tho hfgfhjgjjj i cringed every time they said it. But still.. i enjoyed myself! 7/10
Dear John is another by-the-numbers Nicholas Sparks adaptation, and it feels painfully generic in execution. Channing Tatum does what he can with the material, and the movie hits the expected emotional beats, but it never rises above formula. Compared to something like The Vow, it leans even cheesier and ends up slightly less engaging, with fewer moments that stick. That said, it does its job as a romantic drama. For those who enjoy this brand of sentimental storytelling, it delivers the expected heartstring pulls, even if it’s forgettable outside of its core audience. Rating: 2.5/5 – 70% – Worth Watching
