Two handsome men explore an LSD trip, but the script and direction suggest little understanding of the drug. The hallucinations feel unconvincing, save for a laundromat scene. It comes off as period propaganda against acid use, redeemed only by Dern and Fonda’s striking presence and a faintly homoerotic undertone.

Oversimplifies in some respects and is downright misleading in others. Kudos to them for trying, but tripping is an individualized, altered perception, multi-sensory experience that just can't be truly captured on film.
