An artful film of great beauty and great sadness. This film rightly attracted much award attention: Oscar, BAFTA, motion picture professional entities, and others. The acting is sublime. Rachel Weisz won an Oscar, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Award for her character who was truly the beating heart of the film. Ralph Fiennes’ performance was beautiful and understated. The cinematography was a love letter to Africa as much as the writing was its distress call. In my opinion there was nothing to fault in this production. I give this film a 10 (intricately beautiful) out of 10. [Political Thriller]
I think the most interesting part of this movie is the change in what the gardener was digging for. At first he was suspicious about who is wife was and then later it morphed into something completely different. We've seen countless cautionary tales about the dangers of government getting in bed with business in order to screw over good people while filling their pockets - this is one of the better entries into this area that I can remember. Besides the acting of Fiennes and Weisz the other thing that stood out was the excellent resolution to the story. follow me at https://IHATEBadMovies.com or facebook IHateBadMovies
> "Do you no good to go poking around under rocks, Justin. Some very nasty things live under rocks, especially in foreign gardens." Ralph Fiennes is so good that he makes me almost forget that Rachel Weisz (who I love) is in this movie. This is a great example of good movie storytelling. Goes from drama to thriller pretty quickly and I'll admit the ending surprised me.
I wasn't expecting a multicultural experience and I appreciated it, what's portrayed here is a world we definitely know way too little. But aside from that, the movie is just... okay. I would categorise it more as a political drama, there's little to no mystery in it. I bet you'll guess the plot and who's the culprit very quickly. The main character's like a shadow throughout the movie. I get that the idea of him is being... not very much of an action guy, but he's highly unappealing. I would've definitely rated this lower if not for the multicultural scenes.
