I have loved this movie since it came out in 1984,a great soundtrack and a great movie.....it finally got released on Blu-ray and looks amazing
Damn c l a n k e r s. Robosexual propaganda! Seriously though, very unusual cheesy eighties romcom cash in on eighties fears of computerisation. Ridiculous premise, plenty of stupid moments, weird music video editing but neat "digital" effects that are practical video effects tickery and an even weirder custom soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder. Entertaining.
I quite enjoyed this film. I'll admit it's all a bit ridiculous in a very 80s way. But if you recontextualise the beats of the story to the modern day, it turns out to be quite relevant. With the rise of LLM-based AI and all of the discussion around them, this movie hits on many relevant elements. It depicts a development process that parallels an LLM in a sort of cartoonish way, and even packs a perfect scene rebutting AI art. It also contains some of the worst ADR I've ever seen in a movie! Pushing past that, I found this to be a surprisingly relevant and accidentally prescient bizarre little romcom.
great movie if you're prepared to look at an old computer and go "oh won't someone PLEASE kiss his flat face :'(("
I've waited a long time to see Electric Dreams, and was woefully let down. The film flirts with "gonzo horror" territory but ultimately fails to commit, never truly venturing into the darker, more bizarre depths it hints at. What's left is a rather tepid romantic comedy, albeit one with a cool gimmick that sadly isn't enough to elevate the uninspired plot.
