I enjoyed this. I'm not sure that i love the style of music where its essentially dialogue over a beat, but at the same time i did enjoy it. I've been wanting to watch it for years, theres a certain level of connection to my own community found in this show and i really do adore just getting to see a community i connect with on screen.
A bunch of awful people get really mad at the true architect of the AIDS crisis ... black landlords? This is like two bad stories in one, an AIDS one and a love triage one. Yikes.
> "Forget regret, or life is yours to miss." I don't know what to expect but this was different. I don't really like musicals but this kept me entertained. Overall not for me but I can see why people like it.
I've listened to so many of the songs before ever watching this movie, so it was interesting to finally see the faces behind the voices. It's a deeply queer and working class story, very emotionally touching. Though the first hour and a half was way better than the rest of the movie, especially when it comes to the songs. The second half had basically only 2 memorable, good songs in it whereas the first half has non-stop bangers. Also it does drag a lot, could have been at least 20 mins shorter. I liked how complex the characters were but the focus on romantic relationship drama was a bit much. Glad to have finally seen it though!
It's become a yearly tradition for us to watch Rent, and honestly, it never gets old. It's just such a fun movie with some incredibly catchy songs that you'll be humming for days, and underneath all the spectacle, it truly has a lot of heart. What's surprising is that some of the songs I initially found the cheesiest are now the ones that consistently move me the most.
