This is a very good film, not anywhere near as good as the first four of the series, but for only one reason. 10 minutes. The Japanese release of 'Battle' contains an extra 10 minutes of footage that I feel is not only important to the storyline, but it completely changes the feel of the film. Without those crucial 10 minutes of footage, the viewer is thus given a somewhat watered down t.v. series type version of the film, originally done to attract a more younger audience. I personally love this film either way, Trust me, before critisizing 'Battle For The Planet Of The Apes', seek out the Japanese release and see for yourself just how different (and better) a decent film can become with only 10 minutes of added storyline.

The "Planet of the Apes" series is certainly a mixed bag success-wise. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's made up of great movies but through the first four flicks, it has always entertained. But with this fifth and final movie it fails on all counts. Honestly, I couldn't wait for "Battle..." to conclude. It was seriously hard to watch. I think everyone involved, including Roddy McDowall, phoned it in. The only person who showed any life at all was Claude Akins as gorilla General Aldo. There were several times that I threw my hands in the air in frustration over the predictable and boring story. And everyone involved acted like an idiot. Was this supposed to be funny? The mutants are ridiculously ignorant and the apes are no better. The actual battle scene goes on for an eternity and nothing happens. Both sides have to be the worst marksmen I've ever seen. The scene where Caesar, Virgil, and McDonald travel to a bombed out radioactive city, is done just so Caesar can watch a video of his Mother and Father. It's monumentally stupid and it goes on f-o-r-e-v-e-r. I thought Caesar was supposed to be smart!?! He risks his life and the safety of his wife and child so he can watch a video. It is not a trait that his noble character would have considered in the other movies. Pfffft!!! I've already given this movie more words than it deserves. "Battle For the Planet of the Apes" is a cheap money-grab of a movie and it is a total letdown. The classic "Planet of the Apes" series deserves much better. This has to be one of the worst movies I've ever forced myself to sit through.
Probably the best of the 5 films, Heston ruined the 1st and 2nd movie by giving up on the franchise because he was afraid of always being remembered as Taylor, 3rd was good but it had to try and pick up the pieces. 4th was amazing, and this 5th one was amazing Imo there’s no multiple timelines here, I think it was a loop but this time Caesar broke the loop and changed history, Dr Zira coming back from the future is 100% what caused dogs and cats to go mute then eventually humans in the original 1-2 timeline (even tho nova proved we just need to learn how to talk again) It’s definitely broken because of killing off the nuke religion people, Caesar’s forbidden zone goes away not that humans get their own land, Aldo’s first“No” isn’t remembered, also Aldo is dead and Caesars name is remembered Unless they said Aldo was a gorilla in the first film I kind of feel like that aldo is Caesar in the loop
