I had not heard of this film as it wasn't a mainstream Hollywood release (or I just plain missed it, but given my penchant for zooming through commercials that wouldn't be surprising). I've always thought that Guy Pearce was one of the top actors that gets no recognition and he did not disappoint in this film. The movie is set in 1800's Australia. The country at that time was almost completely lawless and attracted scoundrels from all over the world (not to mention being a dumping ground for English criminals). An incident happens where a brother is offered a deal to save one of his brothers from death. The film was dark and gritty and rather colorless. That said, I often enjoy these kinds of movies and I definitely enjoyed this one. follow me at https://IHateBadMovies.com
Solid acting with dashes of gore, but never gives you a reason to give a shit about any of the characters.
Enjoyable albeit extremely simple tale of revenge in the outback of 1800s Australia. No reason to watch this more than once.
The interesting thing about this movie is that it shows the desolation, lawlessness and brutality in rural Australia at the end of the 19th century. It shows not only the violence and extreme racism (from todays point of view) against the aborigines, but it also shows what lowlives many of the white people at the time were. To me the movie is though a bit to slow paced and the base story does just not make all too much sense. Still a good movie about that time in rural Australia.
Well, as usual Guy Pearce doesn’t disappoint.
