This film portrays a great self-criticism

There was a scene during the second story where the two filmmakers are talking about the nature of film. Or maybe more specifically, documentaries. What is a specific documentary trying to say? I felt that question reflected how I felt about this movie. The script felt very amateurish and while I get what it was trying to say it was delivered very poorly.
