Excellent plot well acted. Superbly directed by Tornatore. Fantastic soundrack.
Geoffrey Rush is an outstanding actor and the movie begins quite interesting. But I have not the slightest idea why some are so excited about "the plot twist". Besides the surprise part being no surprise, the plots also isn't very well balanced. It wastes times with story parts that don't really contribute much, while it also ignores or minimizes elements which could enrich the experience. I expected a lot more, considering the high ratings.
Never heard of the movie, found it on a list here called "epic twists", well there was nothing epic about it. Very mediocre plot and the ending was not that surprised nor good. Take one point up for the excellent direction of Tornatore
The Best Offer: A Masterpiece of Obsession Giuseppe Tornatore’s The Best Offer is an exquisitely crafted psychological thriller that delves into the worlds of high art, isolation, and brilliant deception. Geoffrey Rush delivers a masterful performance as Virgil Oldman, a reclusive, fastidious auctioneer who values priceless canvases over people. Virgil's perfectly ordered life is shattered when he is hired by the elusive and agoraphobic Claire (Sylvia Hoeks) to appraise her family’s collection. Drawn by the mystery of the woman he can only hear behind a locked door, Virgil allows an attachment to form—an obsession that cracks his solitary façade. The film is rich in atmosphere, using its antique setting and slow-burn pace to build palpable tension. It masterfully explores the nature of authenticity, asking where the line lies between the genuine and the forged, both in art and in human emotion. The narrative’s final, devastating twist brilliantly re-contextualizes the entire story, solidifying this as an elegant, unforgettable mystery. A superb watch for those who appreciate cinema that is as meticulously crafted as the art it depicts.
The original title of the film is La Migliore Offerta.
