Best of the series, but still just too much of everything.
All this is Robert Rodriguez turning the volume knob to “why not” and breaking it off. The plot is a hurricane of double-crosses that barely pretend to connect, but the style is so loud you stop caring. Antonio Banderas broods like a mythic gunslinger, Johnny Depp walks in and steals the whole movie with pure unhinged energy, and Salma Hayek is criminally underused but unforgettable in every frame she gets. It’s chaotic, messy, overindulgent, and somehow still ridiculously entertaining. A tequila-fueled fever dream with guitars, guns and zero apologies.
An under-rated third El Mariachi movie. It may have so many characters that El Mariachi (Antonio Baderas) isn’t even shown that much. Yet I can forgive the movie since it makes it more of a action crime epic. Like Robert Rodriguez is going for a Once Upon A Time In The West like finale. Johnny Depp steals the show with it always feeling more like his movie than Banderas’.

Once upon a time in Mexico, a movie made audiences go "Olé!" and left them craving some spicy salsa and a margarita. It's like a western, but with more tequila and less horse-riding.
