The story unfolds nicely in this coral movie which succeeds to be a study on mistakes, heartbreak, sadness and ultimately, human condition.
This movie is quite uncharacteristic for a Hollywood movie in that it is not clearly good and bad but mostly grey. The basic story seems strongly inspired by Albert Camus’ “L’étranger” (The Stranger) where a guy also kills somebody for no apparent reason. Here the movie also revolves around that subject and goes into different possible explanations. It also shows how different people are differently affected by the deed. But in the end, very unlike Hollywood, it leaves us with no clear answers but only with many things to think about. While I am not in line with some of the explanations and reactions given, that is exactly the point of the movie. It gives you different perspectives and lets yourself reflect about what you would have done. On the negative side, I find that there are too many characters that are not really introduced and thus you quickly start to wonder “who is that one again?”. Similarly, the movie works with many flashbacks, where it is not always clear to the viewer where we are in terms of the storyline. All in all though, a strong and quite intelligent movie.
Life feeds on sadness. Ok
