A really really nice movie talking about a sensitive subject. Nice story and really good writing.

I wish the mother’s character had more nuance, more of a "grey area." She clearly had her own struggles to contend with, but we didn’t really get to see much of her redeeming side. That made her stand out in a negative way compared to the other characters. The acting was excellent for the most part though—particularly the main actor, despite being held back occasionally by some clunky script lines. I also feel the directing should have been more uncompromising in a way. More stillness (camera, editing and dialogue/script), with longer scenes instead of more. But still an impactful film, thanks largely to the nuanced script and the actors.
