This movie was a dumpster fire with a equally terrible story. Who the heck survives
a shovel splitting a head, and a shovel separating the knees and not bleed out.
The acting was passable at best and it just wasn't good.
A couple (Fabianne Therese and Seann William Scott) is trudging through the woods somewhere in the middle of nowhere. It’s unclear why they’re together. They certainly don’t have any chemistry. At some point, they run into a Leatherface wannabe in a puppet costume, and the so-called plot takes its course. It’s clear from the very first moments that '70s films like “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” were obviously the inspiration for "Dolly." Pure terror is definitely the focus. But for me, the retro look only worked to a limited extent. Not only does the use of things like smartphones right at the start clash with the visuals, but director Rod Blackhurst apparently didn’t realize that these classics he’s trying to emulate were more than just their gritty visual presentation. The antagonist’s design works pretty well, and she definitely has a solid presence on screen. But it never really clicked for me. For example, the gore—which is definitely there—is ruined by the shaky and often way-too-close camera. The script is also pretty lousy, and you find yourself constantly wondering what the point of it all is. Furthermore, the script doesn’t do the main character any favors; there have definitely been protagonists in slasher films who behaved far less stupidly. On top of that, I wasn’t exactly impressed by the lead actress’s performance—to put it nicely. Ultimately, the film has a few decent (and certainly unintentionally funny) moments that prevent it from being a complete disaster. But I can’t in good faith give “Dolly” a recommendation.
This was really strange and trippy, overall a good time, not great but enjoyable at least.
Surprisingly not that bad (granted I went into the theater with pretty low expectations.) There are some interesting new ideas in the movie. However those ideas are overshadowed by a mostly middling slasher filck. I think the film’s short runtime benefits the overall experience. Would Recommend If You’re Looking For A Short Mediocre Horror Film
This became an instant horror classic for me
