It’s so bad that it’s one of the few movies I’ve ever turned off before the end. The acting, plot, and effects are such low quality that I couldn’t bear to keep watching. What a shame!
The film caught my attention both in terms of plot and genre. I actually enjoy these kinds of scripts, but this one had its flaws. It's as if they wrote it with the idea that the quicker the ending, the better. The film is missing something. You're waiting for something to happen, but the dialogue is long and the action short. It's a very cheap script. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. Still, kudos to you for your efforts.
And here's me thinking Tom Felton could act. The premise of the movie is good enough (although lacking in originality), but the execution lacks style, finesse. The movie is at times self-deprecating, just to immediately take itself way too serious. Most of the information you need to follow the story is exposition-dumped in one of the first scenes, which precludes you caring about the plight you are supposed to care for. It's all a bit of a mess. It is however the first movie where I see the lead actor have a flashback of a moment that happened seconds before... In the end, this is a badly written, paper thin story riddled with plot holes and predictability (No prices for guessing who the villain is), acted out poorly and finished with a sizzle (including unironic villain exposition) instead of a bang. Avoid.
A 6/10 is often the most insulting score a film can get because it signals wasted potential. When the premise is exactly what you enjoy, the failure to deliver on the "edge" feels like a personal betrayal of the genre. It's time to put on Elysium and remember what it looks like when a sci-fi film actually has some teeth. Good idea, but shame about the very poor execution. Even the amazing Tom Felton of Slytherin couldn't cast a spell to fix this script. The idea and premise match the genre I like, but the end product does not. This movie gave me a Matt Damon in Elysium vibe, but it lacked grit, risk, edge-of-your-seat moments, and the choreographed fight scenes resembled a primary school play (no offence to any primary school plays). The only good thing about this film is that it has made me want to rewatch Elysium, to cleanse my palate. 6/10 is far too generous and kind.
Flower power? This couldn't be serious. 😵
