Amusing at first and then descends into a bloody mess, 100 acres of it!
An impressive feature debut by the Cairnes brothers. The blood and practical effects are great when they happen, but the movie is really a deadpan comedy about bumbling, desperate people thrown into an absurd situation. It is rare for horror villains to have as much depth as Reg and Lindsay. While not all the jokes landed for me and it doesn't quite reach the highest tier of the genre, it is entirely clear why it earned its reputation as the Australian Shaun of the Dead.
It's pretty stupid, with only half the gags landing, and too much laborious dialogue, but delivers on the premise and wraps up nice enough, where I'm not completely satisfied but also don't feel like I've wasted my time. The best parts of it were the decent practical effects and gore. The stuff that drug the most was the dual dialogue romance stuff, and the "whoa man, drugs" parts.
Silly fun, quite as expected. Enjoy and forget.
Like a dead body: it doesn't go anywhere, is neither scary nor funny and kinda stinks.
