Yoji Yamada captures the "twilight" of the samurai era in the first entry of his "Samurai Trilogy". The change of a system happens even in a remote Japanese village. The director uses a naturalistic, quiet style to portray the story of our main protagonist.

a different prospective on life. what it means to say 'i lived like one should live life'? who has the right answer to how one should live. is money the goal? women? there is no one right answer.

Very good movie; the film addresses many themes that are present in Harakiri. I also really liked the music and the actors.
