My first thoughts - Oh hey they're wearing the clothing from the poster - I guess this movie will at least be useful in demonstrating some fetish gear? - That latex looks both uncomfortable and unappealing - I guess I expected nudity but I didn't expect it this soon. We aren't even five minute into the movie yet. Well this movie is not good. You can tell it's not good because the first thing movies cheap out on is sound and this sounds awful. The first scored scene I had to pause three times to make sure I didn't have something else playing in the background because that's how little sense the audio made to me. The acting is all over the place. There's a scene in the beginning where one of the girls threatens to torture another and it's the least threatening thing I've ever seen. The camera work just refuses to pull out any threat from the scene. Ironically you can feel instantly that when the electric prod comes out that's DEFINITELY going to be used in exactly the same way that when the saw comes out you know with 100% certainty that it won't be used. The lighting is just enough for a home video and about 80% short of what you need to make a decent film. The mise en scene is just boring. There's no personality to anything in the background. It's like they just had a producer use their real house for whatever reason. The continuity has problems that are so obvious they show to even the most casual viewer. When a character make a pointed scene about finishing their glass of fine and then saying "I'm finished". It's weird to then have the character in the next shot swirling a glass of wine. We didn't watch it get refilled and it wouldn't make sense for it to be refilled. The point of the scene was that she chugged the glass of wine and **finished**. If you staple someone on their heart and then their whole chest is covered. At least I can sort of understand how that happened. Production, miscommunications. It happens. It's noticeable almost as noticeable as the editor not cutting the torture scene properly so you watch them fake a stabbing for no reason. I'm not like full on LGBT/Roger Waters/Gonzo/Indie film savant but I've seen a few movies about BDSM relationships and I've read enough about it to get the basics. I'm not completely lost in most of what the movie wants to say is going on. But holy heck just because I know the turtle is going to win the race doesn't mean you get to skip telling me how he does it. At points I think this was supposed to be an erotic thriller, but _Wild Things_ this is not. There's a lot of straight dude lesbian sex scene jokes I could make but it says something about how much material there is that I don't need to. There's a scene that reminds me of Judaism where they reject you three times before you're allowed to convert. I feel like it was better done in Fight Club. And just because I've never seen a real submissive in a real dungeon doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be confused and question the character tone. Because we have someone who is overly effusive and bubbly trying their hardest to get locked into a house of control where they have to be silent unless spoken to? The movie is telling me that she's trying but what i see is a cheerleader who agreed to handcuffs for the weekend. There's just a general inability to understand anyone's motivations or goals except int he most basic vague and general sense. Fenix wants to get back into the house. But she never seems to struggle with having just had independence. She never wavers in her conviction to stay in the house. So I'm confused why I care. Needles wants... nothing? At some points in the movie she says she wants to be owned by Selena. At some points in the movie she seems to be frustrated with Fenix. Is she upset at the disruption of the balance she was in before Fenix showed up at the door? She certainly doesn't seem to care. Selena... well Selena is like a background character but with too much face time. Does she care or want Fenix or Needles? I don't think we're supposed to care she's just the dominant person in the house and that's it. This isn't _Secretary_. That said there's a scene at the end that I think is supposed to be dramatic like the one in Secretary where the can't move her hands from the desk until he says. But here it's just... weird? I think the movie wants to say "Oh this is how extreme they are and how far they'll go for their fetish family" but and again maybe because it's not my scene but it just looks stupid. I guess if you're here for gratuitous nudity and nude sex scenes there's plenty of those. But even then ... well I guess that's why we call them gratuitous because most of them didn't really feel like they were making any point. If this movie had cut out the thriller parts. The parts where it hints there might be something deeper going on. Trimmed the horror bits. I don't need even off screen torture porn. Just focus on the eroticism and the characters. Maybe there would have been something to bite into.
