Coolie is not perfect, with its rough edges in story and action. But come on, it’s RAJINIKANTH (fanatic mode on), when Thalaivar is on screen, nothing else really matters to me! I don't even understand Tamil but it's just fun to cheer him and watch him on screen, dude's been doing this for over 50 years that's kinda sick, and that alone is worth a watch.
Too many English songs as bgm, which was tiring. The last 10 minutes with the Amir Khan cameo is useless and makes us think Rajni is not completely a good guy. I mean he says 'as long as coolies are not hurt we have no problem with each other'.
“Stylish, nostalgic… but messy.” That’s basically Coolie. Lokesh wanted this to be a big Rajinikanth celebration—nostalgia, swag, fan-service, all of it. And yeah, the first half actually works. But then the second half happens… and the movie just collapses under its own weight. The Good Stuff Rajinikanth still owns the screen. At 74, the charisma is unmatched. The de-aged flashbacks? Pure gold. You can almost feel Baasha vibes again. Nagarjuna looks 🔥 as Simon, though he barely gets proper screentime. Criminal waste. Dayal (Soubin Shahir) is one of the most interesting parts of the movie—menacing, intense, and well-acted. Anirudh’s BGM? Honestly the real hero. He carries entire scenes on his shoulders. Even filler moments feel big because of him. Sathyaraj and Upendra shine in their short appearances. The Problems The story is all over the place. Starts solid but gets convoluted with endless subplots, random flashbacks, and filler scenes. Shruti Haasan’s character? Practically irrelevant. Feels like she’s only there to scream or be rescued. Nagarjuna deserved way more depth—stylish villain, but hollow at the core. Songs are fun (Monica rocks), but the placement? 🏽♂ Total momentum killer. Action looks stylish but feels repetitive after a point. The ending hour is just stretched spectacle with logic tossed aside. Style Over Substance Lokesh’s direction looks slick - the neon-lit port, the mansion fights, all shot with flair. But it often feels like he’s more obsessed with style than storytelling. It’s like he tried to make a “festival film” instead of a tight, engaging story. Coolie isn’t a bad movie ; it’s just a messy one. For hardcore Rajini fans, it’s a celebration. You’ll whistle, you’ll cheer, you’ll enjoy the nostalgia. But if you’re someone expecting a coherent, emotional, well-written film… this one will test your patience. High on swag. High on music. Low on story.
It delivers a massy experience. You will enjoy it to the fullest if you are a Thalaivar fan. The Characters of Upendra(Kokki) & Amir Khan(Dahaa) would have been a big surprise for the theatre experience if the characters were kept secret. The LCU expectations may lead you to dissatisfaction, so take it as note.
The first half is rivetting and story goes on , but the second half drags on like crazy and many plot holes make it a watchable movies otherwise it would have been a great movie.
