The cinematography was beautiful, the acting was wonderful and the makeup is worthy of awards. Not a dull moment in this adaptation of a tale as old as time. The stiff knees from sitting in the cinema for 3 hours was worth it.
This is the best cinematic production of The Count of Monte-Cristo I’ve watched to date. I’ve seen the 1975 and 2002 movies. This version is visually stunning. The story after his escape from prison is told very differently than the other two older movies. While the movie looks good thanks to newer technology, it’s the storytelling that made it feel like I’m rediscovering this timeless epic once again in the year 2024.
What a Masterpiece! Best adaptation so far! And the OST Wow! I still have the music playing in my ear. I know in my heart that the next time I’m watching a movie as perfect as this one is a long way from now for sure.
Still as good a second time around! Still a packed theater almost 2 months after the release! This time I was joined by The Count of Snapchat, the dude was on there the whole time and even changed his screensaver at one point, why??? There was also the Whisper Sqaud behind me, except they were whispering as loud as I yell. BUT in both cases, they paid attention during the second half of the movie and THAT, my friends, is the power of THE COUNT OF MONTE-CRISTO!!!!
Every adaptation I see of the Count of Monte Cristo leaves me with the same feeling. The real Edmondo, the character Dumas wrote, was smart, charismatic, and vengeful in extreme. He was kind, and considerate with those who he thought deserved it, but he was vile, and abusive, and cruel, and destructive, and he didn't doubt to harm the loved ones of the ones that made his life a hell, only Valentina Villefort was redeemed of his vengeance, and only for his love for Maximilien Morrel, son of one he once thought a loyal friend. Every adaptation fails to portrait that broken, harmful, vengeful, cruel, cold, and soulless side of the character. There is still no film that make justice to the original Edmondo Dantes of Alexandre Dumas.
