I love the book. The movie basically misses on everything that was important. I cannot believe the author actually helped adapting this.

The bearable lightness of this film – only but.

I have to admit that I had higher hopes for this movie. It aspired to be an epic and it just never reached that level of storytelling. There are a lot of parallels to Cold War but that was a FAR superior movie. Juliet Binoche was very good playing a character that did not require a lot of range. Daniel Day-Lewis was.... odd? At different times his accent sounded like The Count from Sesame Street or John Travolta.
