One of best animation movies I've seen! I'm a fan.
I think 7 out of 10 is the perfect rating for this film as honestly the animation and the voice acting is beautiful, also the story is really entertaining and interesting for both children and adults alike. Also, the movie has some really great songs that will get caught in your head. But what brings this movie down for me a little is the last 20 minutes, it felt very rushed and the attention to detail which was seen throughout the film was no longer there at the end of the film in my opinion. That doesn't mean don't watch it, this movie also shows why Dreamworks honestly dominated the late 1990s and the early 2000s with its unique animation and also some brilliant storytelling. Definitely a pleasant trip down memory lane and it holds up for today's kids as well.
Can't believe it took me so long to see this movie. Extremely underrated. The story is a classic one for this kind of movie, yet it is very entertaining. Good jokes, fun both for kids and adults. I really liked the animation style, which results fresh and pleasing even today, 18 years after its release. Only thing I didn't really enjoyed where the songs. Not a fan of those (sorry Elton John). 8.5/10
One of DreamWorks more forgettable effort. A disappointment considering the talents involved in this project. The animation looks cheapish by today's standard. The writing was somewhere between average and lazy. They did not bother explaining how everyone was speaking the same language.
There's a lot more CG in this movie than I remember there being, but it's integrated with the 2D animation very well, so it hardly seems out of place. The story goes at a lightning pace, and it's pretty simple because of this, but it works. The fun dynamic between the two main characters is the best part of the movie; I love the comedy in the conversations these two have. Much like _Shrek_, this is also an example of Dreamworks Animation getting away with more adult or mature things than you'd expect in a children's animated movie, and I'm here for it.
