Has not aged very well, nor has Myers schtick. Nothing standout, but it's light fun if you're in the mood for a 90s comedy. The best bits were actually the cop buddy with his sergeant and him yearning for a more cliche movie-like lifestyle.
So this is a... well. It's a movie. You can hear Shrek's voice every so often and that's pretty funny. It's a half decent RomCom. I guess I might just not be a Mike Myers guy? The dude is like if you took a whole classroom of theater kids from high school, fused them all together, and then turned the cringe factor up to 11. I just didn't jive with a lot of his antics and jokes. To his/the movies credit though, there were some laugh out loud moments. It's just the other, say 80% falls flat. I enjoyed the twists at the end that I didn't really see coming. Love a good twist. But it's a bit of a slog to get to when "something is finally happening." During the other parts of the movie, you experience the overall message, which to me, in the simplest of terms I can reduce it to is something like: "sometimes we are our own worst enemy when we're in love." Which is a pretty good message that I feel like a lot of people need to hear, so props on them for making a movie about that. Not my favorite RomCom in the world, but not the worst thing I've ever seen either. It does remind me that I do wish Slam Poetry would die and get thrown in a very shallow grave. *There She Goes starts playing for the 5th time*
Streamed via Hulu Catching up before it's leaving Hulu. I surprisingly had fun watching this. It's so '90s but something about this film felt so unique. The story is super cheesy but I kinda like it. I like the humor and side jokes, there are lots of them! Mike Myers is so charming and quirky in this. I just can't help but smile watching his quirkiness. First two thirds are hilariously cute and the third is unexpectedly thrilling. There's one song played 3 times in this and it bugs me. I'd appreciate more if horror is the center of the film.
I hadn't seen this in a number of years, and what I realized on this watch was that Mike Myers really wasn't all that funny, unless he was playing a cartoonish character. For instance, playing his own father in this film, he was quite funny, but as himself, his comedic attempts fell flat.
Marry the sister of a psychopath.
