Starring Nick Nolte, a homeless veteran who develops a unique friendship with an aspiring musician after he stops him from trying to end his life. It is a quiet and slow paced movie focusing on their friendship. It was deeply moving. Did it make me ugly cry several times. Yes! If a movie can pull that much emotion from me, it deserves 5/5! I don’t remember how long it’s been since I had to grab my Kleenex box while watching anything. I’ve been a fan of Nolte’s since I was a kid. He deserves a lifetime achievement award. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s around 2021 and he has said in interviews that he plans on continuing his career until he can’t go anymore. He also is known for method acting and fully immersing himself into his character roles. I wondered why I hadn’t seen him in mainstream movies anymore and read that he’s moved to doing mostly independent projects, like this one. Highly recommend!

An excellent and sensitive movie that shows namely why at least some people become homeless in Western societies for reasons other than laziness (as some people claim that all homeless are). It is also about humanity and that one can ignore race and social boundaries in order to just find purpose in life. To my mind, the religious story arc, even if minor, is more annoying than helpful to the story as the mostly strict rules of most religions are often times a hinderance to true humanity. To my mind this is also the best performance I know from Nolte who embraces the character. Even if one can reproach a certain degree of naivety to the movie, I highly recommend it, specifically because of the exceptional performance by Nolte.

Whew... This was a year jerker! I really felt the raw emotion of this one. Great film.
