For me, Joan Hickson _is_ Miss Marple. If you want your Marple to be a brash, jolly-hockeysticks type, then you'll prefer Margaret Rutherford. If you want your Marple to be a dishevelled fishwife type, then you'll prefer Geraldine McEwan. If you want your Marple to be a quiet, understated intellect type, then you'll prefer Joan Hickson.
If anyone going into this is expecting a Ms Marple similar to the great Margaret Rutherford (Murder Most Foul,Murder at the Gallop, etc) you'll be severely disappointed, much like I am. The Ms. Marple here is practically a useless character, aimless, random ramblings that make no sense (until the very end and even then they're still quite pointless) and they're all done in such a melancholic sort of way, there's no way you can't wish it was a different actor playing her. I've only seen the first episode (3 part, could have easily been solved in 2 instead) but I can't picture myself wanting to finish this show.
