Had I not grown up in the luxury restaurant biz, I doubt it would've held my attention. The acting is OK, however David Schwimmer lacks the dramatic acting skills to achieve believability as a master sommelier. Fortunately his ex-con business partner is at the other end of the acting skills spectrum, and does a much better job portraying the character, which helps overall. Not sure if that'll carry my attention much past the 3rd episode, we'll see. [3 Episodes Update] Nah -- it's gone from a maybe to a no-thanks. Barely made it through episode 3, it actually started to be annoying. For the most part, the acting is strained. Lots of caricatures and stereotypes. Schwimmer struggles without a Friends laugh-track.
I wanted to like this, but the acting and writing is so terrible. I'm already hate watching it by episode 3.
I've just binged the first 4 episodes, I quite like it, it doesn't take itself too seriously and seems enjoyable, David Schwimmer is always great and Jim Sturgess too. The whole mob boss angle however, could be better, the "tooth-fairy" isn't very intimidating, he's hardly Tony Soprano. They definitely could have done that side story better... But apart from that it seems pretty good so far.
About to try this show out
i love jim sturgess. I hope this is gonna be a good series
