Si Jane Timoney n'a pas les problèmes d'alcool de son aînée, Jane Tennison, elle tente d'arrêter de fumer avec plus ou moins de réussite. Mutée dans un nouveau poste de police new-yorkais, la quadragénaire doit faire face au machisme de ses collègues masculins, qui la soupçonnent d'avoir couché pour avoir le job. Mais celle qui a grandi à la dure derrière le zinc du bar de son père et a été obligée de mûrir trop vite suite à la mort de sa mère quand elle était adolescente n'est pas du genre à se laisser marcher sur les pieds.

Based on a UK series and produced by Peter Berg, Prime Suspect is a gritty New York cop drama starring Maria Bello. Season 1 follows homicide detective Jane Timoney as she tries to break into the old boys club of her squad and deals with the drama between her boyfriend and his ex-wife. Unfortunately the antagonistic setup between Tmoney and her co-workers hurts the show, as there’s not a lot of team work to solve cases (which is kind of a staple of police procedurals). Still, the writers come up with some interesting cases-of-the-week and do a good job at creating suspense and intrigue. And Bello gives a strong performance, making Timoney an exciting and fun character. Yet Prime Suspect wasn’t able to find an audience and was canceled by NBC after 13 episodes.
Good show, likable characters. Shame it was canceled. Thankfully it didn't end on a cliffhanger.
