There are shows I only watch because of the involvement of a certain actor/actress. Here it was Gillian Anderson. I have never read a word of Dickens and I had a little difficulty getting into it, understanding who is who and what their place is in the tale. But once the pieces began to fall together it was very entertaining to watch it unfold. Great production with an excellent cast and great performances.

Just one observation at the moment with this production. Why in heavens name was it deemed appropriate for jumps in the edit to be given a staccato image transition effect with the whooshing noise. It destroys any immersion you have had up to these points. It is good they don't happen all the time. If they did I would expect the caped crusader to turn up to exert his crime fighting energies, and perhaps tackle wayward legal practitioners.
