It's bad. It's really slow, long, boring and badly paced. And you will need subtitles (if you're watching in Spanish) as the actors slur their words. In Spanish media, there's no middle ground, they either speak/act like they are doing theatre, or are incomprehensible.
This serie is not creíble.
The challenge of turning a highly publicized case into a series is keeping the audience engaged without simply repeating what the media has already covered. El caso Asunta manages to do this to some extent, mainly thanks to its strong cast, though it struggles to offer a fresh perspective that makes it truly essential. Candela Peña and Javier Gutiérrez are outstanding. She portrays Rosario Porto with depth, making her a complex and difficult-to-categorize character, while he perfectly conveys Alfonso Basterra’s ambiguity. Together, they create an undeniable tension in every scene, even though we already know how the story ends. The series is well-made and avoids falling into easy sensationalism, but it doesn’t stray from the well-known narrative. It doesn’t try to reinterpret events or provide a new perspective; instead, it presents the story just as it was originally told. For those familiar with the case, it might feel more like a high-quality reenactment rather than a fresh take on the story. Even so, El caso Asunta is a well-crafted production with strong performances and a steady pace that holds attention until the end. For viewers unfamiliar with the case, it serves as a solid and well-told introduction. But for those who already know all the details, it leaves the feeling that it could have explored the gray areas of this tragedy in greater depth.
