[Netflix] It's darker, more intriguing and more pessimistic than ever, somehow closer to "House of cards" than "The West Wing", and brings the protagonist closer to the "dark side" than ever. It is also more cynical, titling the first episode "The future is female" in a world where there is no sorority, but backstabbing and betrayal. It manages to return with the same complex reflection about the corruption of power.

Don't know if this was intended as a mini-series but I definitely hope this isn't the last we see of Birgitte and the gang. This series could have aired immediately after the third season as it's still just as good.

Someone over at TMDB in their infinite wisdom, has marked this as a separate "standalone" series, instead pf properly marking it as the 4th season of "Borgen". Trakt pulls data from TMDB, which is why it's listed as two shows here as well. Both TVDB and IMDB have correctly marked this as a single show and I would direct anyone coming here to watch this without knowing about the first three seasons, not to make the same mistake as me and watched the fourth season first. I was absolutely blown away by this and feel gutted that I was cheated out of watching the show in the proper order. As for the show itself, I've found it superior to nearly every american political drama I can think of. Watch a single episode to see for yourself.

I took a belated look at this both because of the critical acclaim for the series as a whole and specifically for this fourth season's focus on Greenland, which is of course a little topical again. I ended up disappointed, though. I felt the writers wanted us to be in Nyborg's "corner" - she is in almost every scene - but I pretty quickly turned against her and waited in vain for her to act in a way that would earn my respect.
Perhaps because it was expected of them, the writers rather unconvincingly wrote a change of heart into the story but I found it un-earned and unconvincing - it felt tacked on.
There were several sub-plots that in the end led nowhere or petered out. I hope the rest of the seasons were better but this struck me as a rather thin would-be West Wing. And I didn't learn anything about Greenland either (whose culture and social issues seemed rather sketchily outlined, at best).

More House of Cards than Borgen
