Have already seen the series, but going through it again now... it's a bit alarming when you get to season 4 how it feels like she show basically lost it's soul.
It's been years since the first time I watched (most of) this season, so upon a rewatch, I prepared myself for a total dumpster fire. This wasn't that, so I suppose it exceeded my incredibly low expectations, but the show definitely lost what made it special. The concepts/ideas for episodes weren't the problem. Yes, I want another documentary, and the darkest timeline infiltrating the main timeline is an exciting idea. But these concepts are all clearly executed by someone who didn't "get" what makes Community special. They’re done with a sitcom polish that feels very un-Community. They all have this sappy, feel-good vibe and a nice little ribbon on top that just isn’t what Community is supposed to be. Community makes you feel good without shoving a feel-good vibe down your throat courtesy of cheesy dialogue and swelling music. The individual episodes aren't ALL awful, but taken as a whole, the season is incredibly hollow compared to what came before it.
Finally, the nightmare is over.
Average episode rating for this season: 6.92307692… I'm honestly unsure how it scored that high. This entire season felt empty, and I didn't recognize these characters.
