I've been a sci-fi fan my whole life, doesn't matter if it's highbrow, lowbrow...if it's science fiction, I usually love it. I also typically enjoy non-linear storytelling, but I can't agree with the way the story was presented in this. Yes, it is highlighted by some exquisite action sequences, but the story is a mess. I'm not sure if it was incompetence or if the creators were just taking themselves a bit too seriously (a la Grimgar), but it just didn't work for me and became incredibly predictable about halfway through. Oh, and I removed a point for the worst post-credit scenes in any anime that I've ever watched. F them in their A for making me watch those damn ridiculous puppet shows... I didn't think anything could surpass 'SLF Theater' from Shangri-la Frontier in this regard, but this beats it by leaps and bounds...absolutely awful (post credit scenes).

wow. i swear this is almost scene for scene with the video game. same music and i swear its the same english VA’s. such a vibe and one of the best adaptations.

If you’ve played the original game and know of parts of previous games before, you will enjoy what ver1.1a has to offer. It is not a requirement to play any of the games in the Drakengard and NieR series, but your experience will definitely be heightened. Believe when I say this anime wraps up some many things left unanswered for those who know what’s coming.
