Tout allait bien jusqu'au moment où...
Beth est une femme dont l’existence apparemment idéale suscite l’envie et l’admiration de ses anciens camarades de classe. Son métier de grossiste en spiritueux lui assure une existence confortable, de même que sa vie de couple à Manhattan en compagnie d’un homme prospère et séduisant. Ce tableau idyllique vole pourtant bientôt en éclats à la suite d’un incident qui l’oblige à se confronter à son passé. Par bribes, Beth se souvient de l’adolescente qu’elle était et de ses ambitions de jeune fille. Dès lors, elle va n’avoir de cesse de se recentrer, de faire preuve d’audace, d’apprendre à s’exprimer et même de vivre de façon plus authentique. Ce voyage à travers les souvenirs peut certes faire ressurgir des traumatismes enfouis, mais il peut aussi agir tel un facteur d’évolution, voire... de comédie !

It fails to achieve the balance between comedy and drama, too weak in character descriptions and too boring in family drama. It gives the impression that Amy Schumer wants to do something more relevant than "Trainwreck" (2015) and stays with something, simply, more soporific and certainly much less fresh than "Somebody somewhere" (2022), with which it has some points in common.
The season has a slow start, but by episode 3 it got better. I can relate to a lot of this being single and 40s. She's quirky and I always like her work, it's quirky too. It's pretty funny and also realistic. As she is on her journey to find what will make her happy, you just keep rooting for her. I like it. The first 2 episodes.......not so much, but by episode 3 I liked it more. Now I'll be sad when the season ends.
Life & Beth is extremely dark. You'll love it. But it's extremely grounded in pathos and a hatred of self, hatred of your current life, and hatred of where you're from. It's sort of an "everyone sucks" comedy series.
I was about to gag myself with a spoon about this show and about Amy Schumer but since she's playing a character and she's bonafide hilarious and not doing awful skits like her other show, and there's a good supporting cast, I think this'll be that self-aware, everyone's stupid, observational funny.
Definitively started off slow but got better as it progressed .
