Synopsis

For younger watchers (i.e. post-GenX), this show offers a glimpse into an era you probably can't even fathom. Racism, misogyny, rape, drugs, AIDS and more are all covered through a lens you've likely never before had the ability to look into. You may be shocked to see just how far society has come and realize that things, today, just might not be as bad as people think they are. The characters are memorable and, often, funny, which allows serious topics to still permit the audience a momentary reprieve. The pilot, however, is simply awful, with surprisingly terrible acting, particularly from that of Johnny Depp! The show gets significantly better after the pilot and, especially, when Captain Fuller enters the series. No, the writing and sequences are not top-tier like Chicago PD, L&O, or Blue Bloods, but it wasn't meant to be; there's far too much humour for that. How serious can we really expect it to be with young officers going undercover as teens? Still, the stories are quite enjoyable.

The show might not be that relevant anymore, but still a great one to watch. Taking every subject you can think of and in a very believable way.
