A crime-drama that occurs in the 70's around a tribal área. I enjoyed the cast and the type of story has a Longmire feel to it.
By reading the reviews, it is apparent that most watchers have no education in indigenous culture. This isn't about witchcraft or folklore: it's about Navajo oral histories and the Navajo culture. I love that this show has stayed true and exemplifies the matriarchal leadership known to many indigenous peoples. I highly recommend this show. This shows true history of what colonizers did to the indigenous people in north America.
Although as a thriller it sometimes has shortcomings, caused by the accumulation of subplots and a dark ending, in the literal sense of the word, the series achieves its own personality in its deepening of the relationships and the different perceptions within a Navajo reservation. There is a revolutionary look, an attitude of resignation and a disaffection that contrast in an interesting way, but also a spirituality that retains, in spite of itself, the naive image of the Natives.
The show is watchable and entertaining - especially if you like Native American themed mysteries "a la" Thunder Heart. That being said it's a bit corny, sappy, mopy, unrealistic, stupid and pretentious... and the only likeable and almost not annoying character is the bad guy. The lead is unfortunately almost unbearably annoying IMO. How could he not be with a name like "Zahn". Hi, my name is Zahn but my friends call me Zzzzz.
This was actually a pretty cool show. It’s kind of like a modern western, but with a supernatural feel to it as well. I definitely hope they continue to make more season of this one.
