Considérée comme une immigrante ordinaire, Catherine de Médicis, alors adolescente orpheline, est mariée à la cour française du XVIe siècle pour apporter une fortune en dot et produire de nombreux héritiers. Mais elle va rapidement découvrir que son mari est amoureux d’une femme plus âgée, que sa dot n’est pas payée et qu’elle est dans l’impossibilité de concevoir un enfant. Pourtant, ne comptant que sur son intelligence et sa détermination, elle parvient à maintenir son mariage à flot et à maîtriser, mieux que quiconque, le sport sanguinaire qu’est la monarchie durant 50 ans.

The biggest problem with this show is that it simply falls flat. There is barely any tension build-up. All the little side stories just kind of suddenly get dropped and never end up having any relevance. You don't form any real investment in any of the characters. There are no big "oh wow" moments. While it is not terrible, at the end of the day it is simply a kind of boring and forgettable show.
Much of the initial energy of the show was at the hands of Liv Hill, and once the character grew up she became more fiend and caricature rather than character. Still, I did enjoy its playing with the history to entertain with humour and modern attitudes thrown in to serve as a means to grasp the interiority or moment. The throwbacks to her younger past gave the show some shape, that once abandoned left us with the Wicked Witch of the West, even if Samantha Morton is brilliant whilst doing it.
Beaucoup d’aproximations historiques, comme la présence d'Antoine de Bourbon en 1572 alors qu'il est réellement mort 10 ans plus tôt. Peu de cohérence avec la réalité historique, néanmoins la série est agréable à regarder.
