[HBO] The difference between this vision of that deep foray into relationships that Ingmar Bergman built is that it is a work anchored to 2020 (including references to COVID-19). While the original version still maintains a timelessness that is captivating. Hagai Levi's is more explicit, and therefore less suggestive, more emotional and therefore more fragile. It is overshadowed by the grandeur of the original work.
I loved so much Jessica's and Oscar's act so much. Yes, they do nonith more than talk, but its an anthology from a married couple's relationship.
"Scenes from a Marriage" is not a series to watch lightly. Not because it lacks interest, but because it stirs emotions and exposes situations that may feel all too real. Each episode is an open window into the intimacy of a couple in crisis, and there are moments when it’s hard to watch without feeling uncomfortable. Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac deliver outstanding performances. Their connection is undeniable. Every argument, every glance, and every tension-filled pause feels genuine. In episodes 2, 3, and 4, the series reaches an emotional intensity that lingers. Some scenes hit hard, the dialogues cut like knives, and the silences—far from being empty—are filled with meaning. Compared to Bergman’s version, this adaptation modernizes certain aspects and softens others. For some, this might lessen its impact, but it remains a raw and honest story. It reflects today’s relationships, with all their nuances and contradictions. This is not a series for everyone, nor for just any moment. But if you approach it with an open mind, Scenes from a Marriage offers a brutally honest look at love, breakups, and the difficulty of letting go.
Wonderful take on Bergman's film. The subject matter is well suited to a miniseries . Superb writing and acting. Powerful chemistry between the leads, very sexy at times. This song be everyone's cup of tea. It feels like a play - characters analysing themselves and each other. I'd happily watch again one day
Okay, so some people are arguing that this is not on the same level as the original. Just as cover versions of songs are no way near as great as the original, most of the times. But you can't take away from the fact that this mini-series has some _fantastic_ acting. Especially Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. They are absolutely superb! I also loved the "behind the scenes" footage at the beginning of each episode. Thought that was a really clever and interesting concept. I have to check out Bergman's work, after watching this.
