Haven't read the book but this show was so excellently cast and filmed. Even though the story of rape and victim silencing is not new, this was still so traumatic and devastasting to watch. The toxic masculinity was revolting but an important and real part of life. I loved the LGBTQ representation, and the immigrant woman and her son's situation just broke my heart. I will be thinking about this for a long time. Very keen to read the author's books.
The book is much better
I would recommend reading the book first, but I thought this was a good adaptation overall. The complexities of the many characters don't come across quite as well, and there are several important aspects of the novel that are given little to no attention (which is understandable given the limitations of a short series). However, I thought the casting, acting, and depiction of "Bjornstäd" were excellent, and the show does a great job portraying the most pivotal moments and themes of the book.
Sad adaptation of the book. Just skip this and read or listen the book
