TSE is the big big boss in both the upper circles and the underworld of Shanghai during its 30's. Today, he is holding a large birthday party for his grandson CHUN. While everybody is enjoying himself, there comes the bad news that CHUN has just been hit down by a car and is now unconscious. They rush him to the hospital but he soon dies. The driver, BOND, is the adopted son of TSE's best friend. TSE feels that it is an ill omen.

CHO, TSE's youngest son, meets with his former school-mate SAM. He falls for her beauty at his first sight, and is thus very upset to learn that she will be marrying soon. Nevertheless very un-expectedly her fiance is killed in a car accident the day before their marriage. SAM breaks down. CHO pays her special care and concern. SAM is touched and the romance between them sparks off.
